The Right To Die

There are always discussions on the right to life. This usually comes up when it comes to the abortion issue; but what about the right to die? I am not talking about people who just want to commit suicide because their boyfriend or girlfriend kissed someone else. I am not talking about the person who lost their job and will not find a way to pay the bills and instead kill themselves so they do not have to deal with some of the harsh realities of life.

No. I am talking about the people are going to die in the very near future. The people who have to live in pain everyday with their illness. The people who have tried all they can do and it has been deemed their condition is terminal and there is nothing anyone can do about it, short of a miracle. People who have tried all the pain management offered to them and it still does not help take away the pain.
Why is it that we always glorify the martyrs dying for a cause? Why can’t be accept people want to end their lives in peace and let them? Why do we always have to label someone with a mental disorder when they make a personal decision to end their lives, since they have more then they can take of the pain associated with their terminal illness?

I believe people who are of sound mind, who have already been through all medical options already should be able to choose if they want to just extend their life and not live or live what they feel the rest of their life should be and end it in peace and dignity.
What is so wrong for these people to do this? Why do they have to continue to suffer because society thinks they are wrong and they need to suffer until the very end?
I am not saying this should be the first option for people who are diagnosed with terminal illness. I for one would probably fight until the bitter end. But that is what I think now. Not knowing what kind pain or suffering I would endure.
